In Burgundy in winter, cellars and sites in Beaune, Meursault, Chablis and the Mâconnais still receive visitors, some of them every day. Others close on set weekdays or over Christmas.

Winter has two wine events. The Hospices de Beaune wine sale weekend runs from November 13 to 15, 2026, and the Saint-Vincent Tournante takes place in Volnay on January 30 and 31, 2027.

This page covers the trains from Paris, which cellars open on which days, the Christmas closures, both event weekends and what a winter visit costs. For the wider region, see Burgundy.

Getting there

The direct TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon reaches Mâcon-Loché TGV in 1 hour 30 minutes and Dijon in 1 hour 35 minutes. For Beaune, change at Dijon: the trip from Paris takes 2 hours 15 minutes.

November: the Hospices de Beaune sale weekend

The 166th Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune takes place on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. under the Halles de Beaune. The auction is held every year on the third Sunday in November, and the sale itself is reserved for professionals.

The Hospices Civils de Beaune have been the town's hospital institution since 1443, when Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins founded the Hôtel-Dieu. They own the wine estate whose wines are sold at the auction.

The festivities run from Friday, November 13, to Sunday, November 15, 2026, in the town center. Many wine merchants and estates open their cellars for tastings and cellar tours, and music and folk groups perform throughout the weekend. After nightfall, light displays are projected onto the facades of seven sites in Beaune. Book tasting packages through the tourist office's online ticket office.

The Semi-Marathon de la Vente des Vins, 21.1 km long, starts on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 2 p.m. on avenue de la République in Beaune and passes through Pommard, Meursault and Volnay.

The Hôtel-Dieu opens continuously from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. until November 15, 2026. Over the sale weekend, Caves Patriarche quotes its prices on request, and Maison Bouchard Aîné & Fils does not run its cellar tour.
